Would You Like to Make a Soldier Out of Your Son Ted? An early 19th century Irish broadside about the consequences of children rushing off to enlist, "Mrs. McGrath" was introduced in the US by The Weavers in a 1951 recording. Seamus Ennis also recorded a version that year. Mrs. McGrath is among the least recorded of the songs on "The Seeger Sessions"; besides Pete Seeger, Burl Ives also recorded a US version in the 1950s. The Clancy Brothers, Tommy Makem and The Dubliners are among other notables who have recorded "Mrs. McGrath." |
